Subject: Observations in the campus

Last Sunday (13th) I walked for about half an hour around the poplar
plantation and toward the sewage ponds. It was late in the afternoon and the
temperature was around freezing, but as usual, there were several dozens of
magpies, finches and buntings coming to roost in the area. The
observations follow:

2 Ruddy Shelducks (Tadorna ferruginea) - On the ponds

1 Long-legged Buzzard (Buteo rufinus) - Mobbed by daring magpies until
	it left for West

1 Buzzard (B. buteo) - An uncommon observation here in METU

1 Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus)

2 large falcons - Probably Peregrines, but they were too far away

1 Green Sandpiper (Tringa ochropus)

1 Syrian Woodpecker (Dendrocopos syriacus)

2 Blackbirds (Turdus merula)

A mixed flock of Rooks (Corvus frugilegus) and Jackdaws (C. monedula) -
the 400 or so birds took a fright from the two large falcons

80 Magpies (Pica pica)

30 Tree Sparrows (Passer montanus)

10 Chaffinchs (Fringilla coelebs)

A single Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis)

10 Linnets (C. cannabina)

50 Yellowhammers (Emberiza citrinella)

20 Corn Buntings (Miliaria calandra)

There was also a very dark fox darting among the bushes. Cheers
